Images are key if you want to create a compelling document, so as you'd expect Xara Cloud offers great flexibility in the handling of photos.

Adding & Replacing an Image

You can add and replace photos and images to your documents in a number of ways:

From a stock image provider

  • Click on the Image button in the left hand toolbar

  • Type your keyword into the search field

  • Drag and drop the new image onto your document. If you drop it on an existing photo it will replace the photo.

From your local computer

  • Drag and drop from your local windows explorer, or

  • Click on the Image button in the left hand toolbar

  • Click on Upload Image and then Your computer

  • and select the photo you want to add. That will add the photo to your document, you can drag and drop it onto an existing photo if you want to replace it.

From your Cloud Drive

  • Click on the Image button in the left hand toolbar

  • Click on Upload Image and then Cloud storage, that will show your connected cloud drives, select the cloud drive, and then the photo. That will add the photo to your document, you can drag and drop it onto an existing photo if you want to replace it.

From a URL

  • Click on the Image button in the left hand toolbar

  • Click on Upload Image and then URL and enter the image URL. That will add the photo to your document, you can drag and drop it onto an existing photo if you want to replace it.

Alternative routes

If you click on an image then this toolbar appears next to the image.

Replace offers an alternative way you to choose a replacement image from the same list of options (stock, your computer etc).

You can also drag and drop images within your existing document.

Editing your photo

The toolbar that appears when you click an image also offers the ability to create a duplicate, add text on top of your image, add a link to it, add a comment for your colleagues, or by selecting ... cut, copy, paste, delete or add the image to your Team Assets.

Also when you click an image you'll see the adjustment handles (the little blobs!) which allow you to edit it in a number of ways. If you mouse-over the handles a tooltip will give you a brief description of each handle’s function.

You can…

  • Resize and crop the the frame.

  • Rotate the frame.

  • Push the photo around within the frame - use the little 'hand' icon.

  • Rotate, zoom and scale the photo within the frame.

  • Round the corners of the frame.

As you drag the handles to adjust an image, a faint copy of the full uncropped image is shown behind. This makes it easier to make adjustments because you can see parts of the image that fall outside the crop area as you drag the handles.
